Federal and state governments have been advised to  partner the Nigerian Union of Tailors (NUT)  in Mass production of  mouth -nose masks towards containing further spread of Coronavirus in the country.

The Grand Patron, Nigerian Union of Tailors, Alhaji  Abdulmumini Sanni Jawondo gave the advice while addressing a Press Conference in Ilorin recently.

Alhaji Sanni- Jawondo who is a renowned Chartered Accountant and also doubles as President, Alh. Abdulmumini Sanni Jawondo Foundation said the production of the mouth-nose masks and other protective wears in large scale in the country became necessary to address the shortage currently being experienced.

He enumerated the benefits inherent in the synergy between federal/state governments and the Nigerian Union of Tailors which, according to him  ,include development of nation's economy and safety of all Nigerians. Many states in Nigeria such as Niger and Abia states have already adopted this scheme and arrangements are on going to collaborate with their state's Union of Tailors.

The Patron of the union also explained that the outbreak of COVID- 19 pandemic has, however, created huge markets for mouth-nose masks and other protective wears production, hence the need for government at all levels to take advantage of this existing market gap to strengthen country's Gross Domestic Products.

According to him,  this would also go a long way to addressing the controversy surrounding the use of imported personal protective kits, expecially those brought from China as various NGOs, civil societies and pressure groups had kicked against the adoption of the materials brought from these ambiguous sources.

He emphasized the need to patronise  local producers, while reiterating enormous benefits derivable by sourcing hygiene, safety and standard of the locally available kits; such as, mouth-nose protective materials could be confirmed , ascertained and guaranteed.

The resourceful bureaucrat maintained that the Nigerian Union of Tailors has the ability and capacity to produce high quality mouth-nose masks that would be accessible and affordable to members of the public.

He particularly appealed to Kwara State Technical Committee on COVID-19 to partner with Nigeria Union of Tailors, Kwara State Chapter in this regard to mitigate against recent economic hardship occasioned by COVID- 19 pandemic.
