Pix: Alh Abdulmumini Sanni Jawondo

Federal and state governments have been advised to  partner the Nigerian Union of Tailors (NUT)  in Mass production of  mouth -nose masks towards containing further spread of Coronavirus in the country.

The Grand Patron, Nigerian Union of Tailors, Alhaji  Abdulmumini Sanni Jawondo gave the advice while addressing a Press Conference in Ilorin recently.

Alhaji Sanni- Jawondo who is a renowned Chartered Accountant and also doubles as President, Alh. Abdulmumini Sanni Jawondo Foundation said the production of the mouth-nose masks and other protective wears in large scale in the country became necessary to address the shortage currently being experienced.

He enumerated the benefits inherent in the synergy between federal/state governments and the Nigerian Union of Tailors which, according to him  ,include development of nation's economy and safety of all Nigerians. Many states in Nigeria such as Niger and Abia states have already adopted this scheme and arrangements are on going to collaborate with their state's Union of Tailors.

The Patron of the union also explained that the outbreak of COVID- 19 pandemic has, however, created huge markets for mouth-nose masks and other protective wears production, hence the need for government at all levels to take advantage of this existing market gap to strengthen country's Gross Domestic Products.

According to him,  this would also go a long way to addressing the controversy surrounding the use of imported personal protective kits, expecially those brought from China as various NGOs, civil societies and pressure groups had kicked against the adoption of the materials brought from these ambiguous sources.

He emphasized the need to patronise  local producers, while reiterating enormous benefits derivable by sourcing hygiene, safety and standard of the locally available kits; such as, mouth-nose protective materials could be confirmed , ascertained and guaranteed.

The resourceful bureaucrat maintained that the Nigerian Union of Tailors has the ability and capacity to produce high quality mouth-nose masks that would be accessible and affordable to members of the public.
He particularly appealed to Kwara State Technical Committee on COVID-19 to partner with Nigeria Union of Tailors, Kwara State Chapter in this regard to mitigate against recent economic hardship occasioned by COVID- 19 pandemic.

Saudi Arabia Suspends Ramadan Prayers, tells Muslims what to do!

Saudi Arabia on Monday announced the suspension of Taraweeh prayers in Mecca and Medina during the Ramadan.

Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting, is expected to begin on April 23.

However, owing to increasing cases of COVID-19 globally, Saudi’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, in a statement, announced that the suspension of the important prayer during Ramadan is to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

The minister of Islamic affairs, Abdul Latif Al-Sheikh, said the prayers will be performed at home for health safety.

In Islam, Taraweeh prayers are very important and rewarding during the Holy month.

“The suspension of performing the five daily prayers at mosques is more important than the suspension of Taraweeh prayers.

“We ask Allah the Almighty to accept Taraweeh prayers whether held at mosques, or homes, which we think is better for people’s health. We ask Allah the Almighty to accept prayers from all of us and protect humanity from this epidemic that hit the entire world.

“This is a precaution in line with the prohibition of gatherings, so that funeral prayers take place at cemeteries should not exceed five to six of the deceased’s relatives, and the rest pray at their homes,” the statement read in part.

As of Monday, Saudi Arabia has 4,934 cases and 65 deaths related to Coronavirus.

ADDRESS BY H.E. MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA ON THE EXTENSION OF COVID- 19 PANDEMIC LOCKDOWN AT THE STATE HOUSE, ABUJA

1.   Fellow Nigerians

2.   In my address on Sunday, 29th March, 2020, I asked the residents of Lagos and Ogun States as well as the Federal Capital Territory to stay at home for an initial period of fourteen days starting from Monday, 30th March 2020.

3.   Many State Governments also introduced similar restrictions.

4.   As your democratically elected leaders, we made this very difficult decision knowing fully well it will severely disrupt your livelihoods and bring undue hardship to you, your loved ones and your communities.

5.   However, such sacrifices are needed to limit the spread of COVID-19 in our country. They were necessary to save lives.

6.   Our objective was, and still remains, to contain the spread of the Coronavirus and to provide space, time and resources for an aggressive and collective action.

7.   The level of compliance to the COVID-19 guidelines issued has been generally good across the country. I wish to thank you all most sincerely for the great sacrifice you are making for each other at this critical time.

8.   I will take this opportunity to recognise the massive support from our traditional rulers, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) during this pandemic.

9.   I also acknowledge the support and contributions received from public spirited individuals, the business community and our international partners and friends.

10.       I must also thank the media houses, celebrities and other public figures for the great work they are doing in sensitizing our citizens on hygienic practices, social distancing and issues associated with social gatherings.

11.       As a result of the overwhelming support and cooperation received, we were able to achieve a lot during these 14 days of initial lockdown.

12.       We implemented comprehensive public health measures that intensified our case identification, testing, isolation and contact tracing capabilities.

13.       To date, we have identified 92% of all identified contacts while doubling the number of testing laboratories in the country and raising our testing capacity to 1,500 tests per day.

14.       We also trained over 7,000 Healthcare workers on infection prevention and control while deploying NCDC teams to 19 states of the federation.

15.       Lagos and Abuja today have the capacity to admit some 1,000 patients each across several treatment centres.

16.       Many State Governments have also made provisions for isolation wards and treatment centres. We will also build similar centers near our airports and land borders.

17.       Using our resources and those provided through donations, we will adequately equip and man these centres in the coming weeks. Already, health care workers across all the treatment centers have been provided with the personal protective equipment that they need to safely carry out the care they provide.

18.       Our hope and prayers are that we do not have to use all these centres. But we will be ready for all eventualities.

19.       At this point, I must recognise the incredible work being done by our healthcare workers and volunteers across the country especially in frontline areas of Lagos and Ogun States as well as the Federal Capital Territory.

20.       You are our heroes and as a nation, we will forever remain grateful for your sacrifice during this very difficult time. More measures to motivate our health care workers are being introduced which we will announce in the coming weeks.

21.       As a nation, we are on the right track to win the fight against COVID-19.

22.       However, I remain concerned about the increase in number of confirmed cases and deaths being reported across the world and in Nigeria specifically.

23.       On 30th March 2020, when we started our lockdown in conforming with medical and scientific advice, the total number of confirmed cases across the world was over 780,000.

24.       Yesterday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases globally was over one million, eight hundred and fifty thousand. This figure is more than double in two weeks!

25.       In the last fourteen days alone, over 70,000 people have died due to this disease.

26.       In the same period, we have seen the health system of even the most developed nations being overwhelmed by this virus.

27.       Here in Nigeria, we had 131 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in 12 States on 30th March 2020. We had two fatalities then.

28.       This morning, Nigeria had 323 confirmed cases in twenty States. Unfortunately we now have ten fatalities. Lagos State remains the center and accounts for 54% of the confirmed cases in Nigeria. When combined with the FCT, the two locations represent over 71% of the confirmed cases in Nigeria.

29.       Most of our efforts will continue to focus in these two locations.

30.       Majority of the confirmed cases in Lagos and the FCT are individuals with recent international travel history or those that came into contact with returnees from international trips.

31.       By closing our airports and land borders and putting strict conditions for seaport activities, we have reduced the impact of external factors on our country. However, the increase in the number of States with positive cases is alarming.

32.       The National Centre for Disease Control has informed me that, a large proportion of new infections are now occurring in our communities, through person-to-person contacts. So we must pay attention to the danger of close contact between person to person.

33.       At this point, I will remind all Nigerians to continue to take responsibility for the recommended measures to prevent transmission, including maintaining physical distancing, good personal hygiene and staying at home.

34.       In addition, I have signed the Quarantine Order in this regard and additional regulations to provide clarity in respect of the control measures for the COVID-19 pandemic which will be released soon.

35.       The public health response to COVID-19 is built on our ability to detect, test and admit cases as well as trace all their contacts. While I note some appreciable progress, we can achieve a lot more.

36.       Today, the cessation of movement, physical distancing measures and the prohibition of mass gatherings remain the most efficient and effective way of reducing the transmission of the virus. By sustaining these measures, combined with extensive testing and contact tracing, we can take control and limit the spread of the disease.

37.       Our approach to the virus remains in 2 steps - First, to protect the lives of our fellow Nigerians and residents living here and second, to preserve the livelihoods of workers and business owners.

38.       With this in mind and having carefully considered the briefings and Report from the Presidential Task Force and the various options offered, it has become necessary to extend the current restriction of movement in Lagos and Ogun States as well as the FCT for another 14 days effective from 11:59 pm on Monday, 13th of April, 2020. I am therefore once again asking you all to work with Government in this fight.

39.       This is not a joke. It is a matter of life and death. Mosques in Makkah and Madina have been closed. The Pope celebrated Mass on an empty St. Peter’s Square. The famous Notre Dame cathedral in Paris held Easter Mass with less than 10 people. India, Italy and France are in complete lockdown. Other countries are in the process of following suit. We cannot be lax.

40.       The previously issued guidelines on exempted services shall remain.

41.       This is a difficult decision to take, but I am convinced that this is the right decision. The evidence is clear.

42.       The repercussions of any premature end to the lockdown action are unimaginable.

43.       We must not lose the gains achieved thus far. We must not allow a rapid increase in community transmission. We must endure a little longer.

44.       I will therefore take this opportunity to urge you all to notify the relevant authorities if you or your loved ones develop any symptoms. I will also ask our health care professionals to redouble their efforts to identify all suspected cases, bring them into care and prevent transmission to others.

45.       No country can afford the full impact of a sustained restriction of movement on its economy. I am fully aware of the great difficulties experienced especially by those who earn a daily wage such as traders, day-workers, artisans and manual workers.

46.       For this group, their sustenance depends on their ability to go out. Their livelihoods depend on them mingling with others and about seeking work. But despite these realities we must not change the restrictions.

47.       In the past two weeks, we announced palliative measures such as food distribution, cash transfers and loans repayment waivers to ease the pains of our restrictive policies during this difficult time. These palliatives will be sustained.

48.       I have also directed that the current social register be expanded from 2.6 million households to 3.6 million households in the next two weeks. This means we will support an additional one million homes with our social investment programs. A technical committee is working on this and will submit a report to me by the end of this week.

49.       The Security Agencies have risen to the challenges posed by this unprecedented situation with gallantry and I commend them. I urge them to continue to maintain utmost vigilance, firmness as well as restraint in enforcing the restriction orders while not neglecting statutory security responsibilities.

50.       Fellow Nigerians, follow the instructions on social distancing. The irresponsibility of the few can lead to the death of the many. Your freedom ends where other people’s rights begin.

51.       The response of our State Governors has been particularly impressive, especially in aligning their policies and actions to those of the Federal Government.

52.       In the coming weeks, I want to assure you that the Federal Government, through the Presidential Task Force, will do whatever it takes to support you in this very difficult period. I have no doubt that, by working together and carefully following the rules, we shall get over this pandemic.

53.       I must also thank the Legislative arm of Government for all its support and donations in this very difficult period. This collaboration is critical to the short and long-term success of all the measures that we have instituted in response to the pandemic.

54.       As a result of this pandemic, the world as we know it has changed. The way we interact with each other, conduct our businesses and trade, travel, educate our children and earn our livelihoods will be different.

55.       To ensure our economy adapts to this new reality, I am directing the Ministers of Industry, Trade and Investment, Communication and Digital Economy, Science and Technology, Transportation, Aviation, Interior, Health, Works and Housing, Labour and Employment and Education to jointly develop a comprehensive policy for a “Nigerian economy functioning with COVID-19”.

56.       The Ministers will be supported by the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and Economic Sustainability Committee in executing this mandate.

57.       I am also directing the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, the National Security Adviser, the Vice Chairman, National Food Security Council and the Chairman, Presidential Fertiliser Initiative to work with the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to ensure the impact of this pandemic on our 2020 farming season is minimized.

58.       Finally, I want to thank the members of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 for all their hard work so far. Indeed, the patriotism shown in your work is exemplary and highly commendable.

59.       Fellow Nigerians, I have no doubt that by working together and carefully following the rules, we shall get over this pandemic and emerge stronger in the end.

60.       I thank you all for listening and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Man Dies in Container During Sex with Married, Pregnant Concubine

Residents of Whitesand community, a suburb of Lagos, were shocked to the marrow as they woke up to discover a middle age man had died inside a container during a sex romp with his concubine.

The deceased, identified just as Akin, aka AK, a father of four, was found dead inside the container, while the lady was gasping for breath.
Sympathisers were said to have invited policemen from Orile Police Station to the scene before the lady was rushed to a private hospital, where she is recuperating.
The lady, whose identity was yet to the ascertained, was said to be pregnant for her husband, who is known to the deceased.
Our correspondent reliably learnt that the incident occurred at the early hours of Thursday.
Said to be a successful young man in his early 30s, the deceased, as gathered, was an agent with Betnaija Lotto, having two staking centres located at 24, Adunni Plaza, Plot 1, Badia Industrial Scheme, Ijora.
His wife, who did not know what had happened, was said to have rained curses on him when called that the man was sick.
The wife was quoted to have claimed that her late husband had abandoned her with the children for three weeks without sending them money to feed with.
AK, as he is fondly called, was said to own a three-bedroom flat in Sango area of Ogun State, where he resides with his family before his untimely death.
Said to be a merchant in orange business at Orile Iganmu fruit market, Akin was described as a jolly good fellow, a tomboy and lover of the green bottle.
After the necessary documents, it was learnt that his corpse was released to family members and buried in his Sango-Ota residence.
The Coordinator of Oodua People’s Congress in the area, who identified himself as Mr. Orebintin, said the incident was uncovered when the sales boy at the centre resumed for work and found that the container was locked from inside.
He said all efforts to force the door of the container open proved abortive, until a cardboard attached to the roof was dismantled.
The OPC coordinator also informed that the love birds had set on a generating set outside the container, suggesting that they were suffocated by the fume of the generator.
Orebintin said: “We are still in shock of how it happened because this is not the first time they have been sleeping inside the container.
“It was the sales boys who drew our attention to it when he wanted to open the container for the day’s sales that the door was locked inside.
“We assisted him by forcing the cardboard attached to the roof of the container because it was locked inside.
“On entering through the roof, we found the guy stone dead, while the lady was breathing profusely.
“We had to call the police from Orile Division before the lady was rushed to a private hospital for treatment.”

Call them and enquire about their plans for palliative measures to cushion the effect of coronavirus in your area and other sundry issues of National importance

Saturday, 11 April 2020

'MESSAGE OF HOPE AND GLAD TIDINGS' by The Vice Chancellor, Kwara State University, (KWASU), Prof. Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi SAN,

Beloved staff and students of Kwara State University (KWASU), I greet you in the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful. It is with gratitude to the Supreme Lord and joy that I convey my heartfelt greetings and best regards to you all, particularly as the world battles with the rage of the coronavirus and the consequence of the global lockdown.

As you all know, I was appointed as the second substantive Vice Chancellor of this great citadel of learning on 1st April, 2020. I wish to express my heart-felt appreciation to you all for your numerous messages of goodwill, felicitation and pledges of support, loyalty and avowed commitment. I am indeed overwhelmed by the show of love, genuine concerns, kind remarks and prayers that I have received from individuals, groups and organizations these past few days for which I am most grateful.

Distinguished colleagues, I count myself very lucky to be the Vice Chancellor because I am coming on board to steer the wheel of affairs of this unique institution with a solid foundation. Even though a relatively young university, KWASU has grown in leaps and bounds within a 10 year period. It has become a brand. Indeed a foremost university amongst other universities in Nigeria. This has been made possible by the giant strides recorded by previous administrations. Special thanks to Prof AbdulRasheed Na’Allah and Prof Sakah Mahmud. Their pioneering efforts have put the university on a solid footing. I wish to assure you that I shall build on this solid foundation.

Since taking over the leadership of KWASU, I have painstakingly embarked on the task of cataloguing the various developmental strides recorded by the past administrations. Like I have earlier stated, it is my desire to build on the achievements of these heroes of our time. Their landmark achievements will certainly serve as referrals and checklist for my programmes and initiatives.

Taking advantage of the window offered by the COVID 19 lockdown, I have, since my appointment, been preoccupied with assessing the factual state of affairs of the university. In doing this, I have been studying bundle of documents and briefs that provide genuine information about the current situation of the university including the potentials and challenges. I have also been engaging in high level consultations with critical stakeholders within and outside KWASU community, chief of which was the interactive session I had with the principal officers including Provosts and Deans of the university. The inaugural meeting afforded me the opportunity to present an outline of my plans for the institution for the next five years. I am very happy with the quality of the comments and contributions that I received from the august audience. I have no doubt that KWASU has the needed human assets that will help drive my mission and vision in the quest of making KWASU a foremost university.
As Vice-Chancellor, my aspiration is to make KWASU a place of prospect and inspiration for the staff and students. My dream is to promote a world class enabling environment for learning, teaching and research. An environment that is conducive for scholarship, knowledge and entrepreneurial skills suitable for industry, business and life.
With your cooperation, I shall be the motivating force of the university, shaping the future of the institution by providing strong, intellectual, innovative, team-leadership and strategic direction. In order to achieve this, my administration shall be focusing on five core areas amongst others:
1. Conducive learning environment for students
2. Promotion of policy-oriented research and collaboration with government and industries.
3. Community development and entrepreneurial initiatives.
4. Transforming KWASU into a financially sustainable institution.
5. Improved welfare schemes and capacity building programmes for staff and students

The critical areas of needs highlighted above form the fulcrum of the mission and vision statements that I submitted as part of my application for the position of the Vice Chancellor, KWASU. With the help of relevant resource persons and experts, I am currently putting together a comprehensive manual that includes the strategic plan and implementation framework that will help actualize my plans for KWASU. The template shall guide the policy direction of my administration over the next five years.

Dearest colleagues, I can not on my own achieve all the lofty plans that I have for KWASU. All hands must be on deck, so we can succeed. Your support and cooperation are highly needed to succeed in making this university a world class university. I promise to work with you diligently in order to sustain the current tempo of development in the university. Despite the laudable efforts of previous administrations, there is still so much to be done. This is not the time to engage in partisan bickering and unhelpful criticisms. Let us seize the moment and work as a team so as to achieve the laudable objectives of the institution and actualize the dreams of its founding fathers. I appeal to you all to eschew all sorts of implants of negative energies so as to move the university to loftier heights. I promise to be just and fair to everyone irrespective of divides.
Permit me to use this platform to congratulate the newly appointed external members of the Governing Council of the University, headed by Prof Kpotun Mohammed Baba. The Chairman of Council is an academic of repute and a seasoned administrator with about 35 years of academic cum administrative experience in the University. He is a Professor of Agricultural Economics and currently lectures in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State. My interaction with the Chairman reveals a man of deep understanding of university administration. He also exudes wisdom, simplicity, humility and great moral standing. We look forward to a fruitful and harmonious relationship between council and management of the university.
I will also like to use this opportunity to talk about the scourge currently ravaging humanity. As academicians, we cannot and should not feign ignorance of the existence of coronavirus (COVID - 19). We all have roles to play. Each one of us must take responsibility in the fight against the COVID – 19 pandemic. We cannot leave the fight to government alone. The least we can do is to comply with health advisories and protocols issued by government and health authorities. I therefore implore us to maintain the highest level of personal hygiene, social distancing and avoid social gathering.  Above all let us keep safe by observing the stay-at-home directive. The spread of the virus is best curtailed in the absence of physical human contacts. Please let us all join hands with government to eradicate the coronavirus before we become victims.

Before concluding this address, I will like to wish all our Christian brothers and sisters within the KWASU community, a refreshing and happy Easter holiday. Easter is a season of sacrifice and forgiveness. There are several lessons to be learnt from the life of Christ. Despite the agony of being unjustly nailed to the cross, Christ still forgave his traducers. May the sacrifice of Christ bring to all, renewed hope and a sense of responsibility as you join me in lifting our university to a loftier height.
Thank you very much and best regards.

Kwara Government to grant executive pardon to inmates, next week says Jawondo

The Kwara State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Salman Jawondo has revealed the readiness of the state judiciary to free/grant some inmates bail in the Ilorin branch of the Correctional Service Centre, next week.

This development is coming on the heels of the Federal Government's directive to states in a quest to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus that has killed thousands of people across the globe, in the prison yards.

In an exclusive interview with this reporter, the Attorney General stated that the pardon exercise is limited to two categories of inmates; those on the Awaiting Trial list and the convicts.

He said one of the government criterias of considering the inmates will include those who are aged, females who have children, inmates who have health challenges, backed with confirmed doctor's report and people with minor offences.

He added that those who are facing trial for offences like rape, armed robbery, cultism and homicide will not be aptured in the next week executive pardon exercise.

Following the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Kwara State, Jawondo said the exercise will be done in corroboration with the state Ministry of Justice, Judiciary and religious leaders.

COVID-19: Prophet Muhammad recommended black seed, honey for treatment – Sultan of Sokoto Seun Opejobi

The President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has advocated the use of black seed and honey in treating those infected with COVID-19.

Abubakar called on the World Health Organisation, WHO, and medical practitioners to consider the Prophet Muhammad’s statements on the black seed and honey for research purposes.

He explained that the prophet’s comment on black seed and honey have a lot of potential for the cure of the virus.

A statement signed by Alhaji Yusuf Nwoha, quoted the Sultan as saying the prophet during his lifetime used black seed and honey as medicines.

He said: “On the efficacy of the black seed, the Prophet (SAW) said, as reported by Abu Hurayrah: ‘Utilise the black seed for without doubt, it is a cure for all sicknesses except death.’ He was also reported to have said in Sahih Bukhari, ‘Honey is a remedy for every illness and the Qur’an is a remedy for all illnesses of the mind. Therefore, I recommend to you both remedies, the Qur’an and honey.’

“So, we urge Muslims and Nigerians at large to take note of this and do the needful when the need arises.

“Honey, on its part, offers remarkable antiseptic, antioxidant and immune-boosting properties for the human body. Apart from fighting infection and helping in tissue healing, honey also reduces inflammation and it is useful for digestive problems also such as indigestion, stomach ulcers and gastroenteritis.”

The monarch, however, called on Muslims to abide by government directives and that of health workers in the fight against the virus.

“I call on Muslims to continue to abide by the directives of government and health authorities: wash your hands regularly, keep social distance and avoid crowded places,” he said.

Kwara Locks Down Offa Totally For 14days Over Death Of Covid-19 Patient

Following the confirmation of two cases of COVID-19 in Offa, the government is compelled to effect a total shutdown of the ancient town to contain community transmission and save people’s lives. This shutdown will become effective at 6pm local time on Wednesday April 8th.
This directive is pursuant to the Kwara State Infectious Diseases (Emergency Prevention) Regulation 2020.
The shutdown means total restriction on every vehicular movement into or from Offa. The exceptions to this directive are those contained in the recent address of Mr President which granted access to vehicles transporting foodstuffs, poultry and pharmaceutical products. Any other movement, private or commercial is hereby banned for the next 14 days or until such a time the government is satisfied that our people are no longer at risk of mass infections arising from the two cases that have been traced to the town.
Any violators are liable to punishments outlined in the Kwara State Infectious Diseases (Emergency Prevention) Regulation 2020. Various security agencies, including the police and the Nigerian Navy, have been drafted to enforce this directive while His Royal Highness the Olofa of Offa has been fully briefed.
We urge our people to please bear with us in this tough period. The human community is certain to come out of this pandemic stronger and better. The government calls for timely report of any suspicious case of COVID-19. Anyone with travel history to frontline states, the America or European countries and others in the last three weeks should please contact the Kwara State Technical Committee for relevant advisory.
Arrangements have been made to distribute palliatives to the poorest of the poor to assist them in this trying time. This will happen before the week runs out. The categories of the people to receive the palliatives are strictly the aged, the physically challenged, widows/widowers, poor artisans, and any other needy group that the ward-based committee on palliatives deem qualified for the food stuffs. This committees comprise traditional rulers, religious leaders and local Community Based Organisations whose duty is to monitor the exercise. We want to clarify that this palliative cannot go round. It is targeted strictly at the poorest of the poor in the belief that they are the most affected at this time.
We pray for all of those infected to get well soon. We assure them of getting the best care possible. Rest assured that you have committed no crime. To all our healthcare specialists, we are grateful to you. We cannot thank you enough. Kwara people are grateful to you and would always have your back now and always.
Finally, Kwarans, this  is no time to panic. Please stay calm. The Government will do everything to keep you safe. But we also need you to play your own role. Stay at home. Keep social distancing. Avoid crowd. Prioritise personal hygiene. And please do not spread unverified news. Claims that one of the two suspected COVID-19 cases has died is FALSE. They both remain stable and asymptomatic at this time.
Thank you.
Kayode Alabi
Deputy Governor/Chairman, Kwara State Technical Committee on COVID-19
